The Germany team have followed up their opening victory over Scotland by winning their second match at EURO 2024 too: the host nation ran out 2-0 (1-0) winners against Hungary in Stuttgart and thus qualified prematurely for the round of 16. BVB captain Emre Can and Niclas Füllkrug came on as substitutes in the second half of the match.

Emre Can, Niclas Füllkrug and Nico Schlotterbeck started out on the bench in Stuttgart and watched Jamal Musiala make it 1-0 in the 22nd minute: captain and former Borussia player Gündogan picked out the Bayern man in the box and he subsequently fired  the ball into the Hungary net from six metres out. Hungary's Roland Sallai did head the ball into Manuel Neuer's net in first-half stoppage time, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

The first Borussia player came on after 58 minutes. As was previously the case in the first group game against Scotland, Niclas Füllkrug replaced Kai Havertz on the pitch. Germany were celebrating again nine minutes later after lkay Gündogan had swept home Maximilian Mittelstädt's cross to make it 2-0 (67).

The second Borussia player entered the fray on the 72-minute mark: the Dortmund player came on in place of Robert Andrich and had a few good moments, such as in the 81st minute when he set Chris Führich in motion on the left flank. Shortly before the final whistle, Niclas Füllkrug was in the thick of the action again. Following a Joshua Kimmich cross, the Borussia man headed the ball wide of the Hungary goal from a difficult position on the left (87). Nico Schlotterbeck was an unused substitute.

The second win in two matches saw the Germany national team prematurely qualify for the round of 16 with a tally of six points in Group A. Coach Julian Nagelsmann's team will go up against Switzerland and BVB goalkeeper Gregor Kobel in their final group match in Frankfurt at 21:00 CEST on Sunday (23/06). Switzerland also have one foot in the last 16 thanks to their 1-1 draw with Scotland on Wednesday evening. Gregor Kobel did not feature in that match. The Swiss occupy second spot in the group behind Germany with four points, followed by Scotland (one point) and Hungary (zero points).
