Shortly before the departure to Paris for the Champions League, sporting director Sebastian Kehl spoke about the upcoming game against Paris Saint-Germain.
Sebastian Kehl on the opposition: "I think Paris expected more of themselves from the first five games. At fifth place in the table, they are not where they belong and want to be too. But the Champions League stage is a very different stage, also for the players there, for the city, for the expectations there. I believe this team is competing to win the title this season. That's what it's been put together for. That's why they have invested again over the summer. We know the task that awaits us tomorrow. Nonetheless, we're going there full of self-confidence and want to come away with something."
…the approach: "We have to be prepared because Dembele, Mbappé and Kolo Muani, probably the three fastest forwards in Europe, await us in attack. We will try to offer little space, we'll have to be compact. Nonetheless, we'll have to have periods of possession in which we can relieve the pressure and threaten with our own switch play. I think that will suit us and we're looking forward to that."
…the PSG squad: "Every player will be willing to showcase himself in the system and in the team in such a way that he brings his quality onto the pitch. They have a very strong squad. But in the end, the team must function. They haven't always shown that in the past and haven't always met expectations in the last few years. We've also been very close. In the last clash, we won the game at home and lost away. I think anything is possible tomorrow."
…the team after the Freiburg victory: "We of course addressed the critical points but we also saw many positive things. Hence why we should not now cast everything in too bad a light. We picked up three important points. That gives the lads self-confidence, which also does something for a team. Yesterday I perceived them to be very relaxed but still very focused too. We know that a different calibre awaits us tomorrow."
…Niclas Füllkrug: "He is certainly a step further along, in part thanks to the game time that he had at the weekend. But one also cannot forget that he was hardly able to train over the international break. It's a cool situation that we have several options at No. 9 tomorrow. The coach will make the right decision." Transcribed by Christina Reinke
