Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham scored the first England goal of his young career on his World Cup debut. Bellingham and the 'Three Lions' won their tournament opener against Iran by a 6-2 (3-0) scoreline.

When the line-up was announced an hour before the match, Jude Bellingham secured his place as the third-youngest player to start a World Cup match for England at the age of 19 years and 145 days. Bellingham then wrote his name into England's World Cup history 35 minutes into the game when he rose high into the air to meet a cross and head home the opener – a goal that made him the country's second-youngest World Cup scorer ever.

Bellingham played the full 90 minutes of the high-scoring game at Khalifa International Stadium. England's next opponents are USA on Friday (20:00 CET). The Americans will kick off their tournament against Wales on Monday evening (20:00 CET) – a game in which another BVB attacking talent, Gio Reyna, can justifiably hope to make his World Cup debut.
