Borussia Dortmund's women's handball team will go into their final European League group game on 19 February with a quarter-final berth up for grabs. The women's handballers are hoping to play against Siofok KC of Hungary in front of a record crowd at the Westfalenhalle. Football fans have the opportunity to watch some elite handball before the first-team home game against Hertha BSC.
The 8,700-crowd at the BVB women's match against Ljubljana in 1997 is currently a national record in German women's handball. Over 11,000 spectators fit into the Westfalenhalle and there is now a chance to set a new attendance record.
Borussia Dortmund's women's handball team is not only making a splash domestically, they have also put themselves in a good position in the EHF European League. They achieved an emotional last-second victory over Molde in the opening group game and then won away to French side Besancon, the favourites to win the group, last weekend. The away game against Siofok in Hungary is the only blot on their copybook and their sole defeat in the main round of the EHF European League to date. The women's handballers will be aiming to keep the points in Dortmund against Siofok and qualify for the quarter-finals of the European League.
The final EHF European League group game against the Hungarians will take place at Westfalenhalle 1 in Dortmund on 19 February. Admission is at 12:00 CET, with the pre-match programme to start at 13:00 CET. Throw-off is at 14:00 CET.
