U23s held to draw by Münster in friendly

The Borussia Dortmund U23s took on SC Preußen Münster at Dortmund-Aplerbeck's Waldstadion in their second pre-season friendly. Both teams played attacking football in the 1-1 draw. As he did in the friendly against Fortuna Düsseldorf's U23s last week, head coach Christian Preußer fielded a different side in each half of the match.
Unlike the 5-0 victory last Friday, when Luca Unbehauen lined up between the sticks, new signing Marcel Lotka was given the nod and kept goal for Borussia for the full 90 minutes. Both teams played attack-minded football and pressed early in the opposition's half. A BVB attack led by Njinmah and Broschinski repeatedly threatened on the counter, while Dams marshalled the back three alongside Suver and Pudel. And yet it was the visitors who opened the scoring at 1-0 courtesy of a spectacular free-kick that flew into the net via the upright. A short while later, Broschinski rounded off a counter-attack perfectly by firing a shot into the far corner to restore parity at 1-1. A double-chance then fell to Broschinski and Njinmah as the first period drew to a close, but Münster managed to block the shots.
Preußer rang the changes at the break, with 10 new outfield players introduced to the fray in the south-east of Dortmund. The new wingers Özkan and Bueno particularly stood out in the 3-5-2 formation, while the attacking duo of Tattermusch and Bornemann pressed early. Münster defended solidly and repelled a number of dangerous-looking attacks. At the other end, Franz, Thaqi and Finnsson did not allow their opponents a sniff. Overall, the spectators witnessed a combative second period in which it was obvious that both teams were in the middle of their pre-season preparations. As such, the game ended in a slightly unlucky 1-1 stalemate.
The U23s will head to the training camp in Kirchberg in Tirol this Friday, where they will take on Wacker Burghausen on 6 July. Christian Preußer's charges will then conclude the camp by facing Austria Salzburg on 10 July.
